Optimist Europeans
Two Howth sailors make up the seven-member European Team to represent Ireland at the 2005 European Optimist Championships in Poland 7 - 18 July. Suzanne Burke & Diana Kissane will depart on this week for Gdynia in Poland. The number of entrants currently stands at 237 boats. In preparation for the World Championships in Switzerland, the Irish World Squad (photo above) attended the Danish National Championships in early July. Two Howth members participated and put in fine performances.
In the Gold Fleet, Alyson Rumball was 29th out of 86. In the Silver fleet, Tim O'Laoire was first overall in a fleet of 95 with three wins to his credit. Later this month, Tim and Alyson will compete with three other Irish sailors in the 2005 Optimist World Championships in St. Moritz 25 July - 5 August.
