The 2009 Vice President's Trophy, an optimist team racing event, was held at HYC on Friday 26th June before the Leinster championships. 8 teams were invited from clubs all around the country namely MYC, SSC, RStGYC, NYC, RCYC, KYC and HYC. One team had to drop out at the last minute but a Provinces team was put together on the day.
The event was managed by Neil Murphy (PRO) who was assisted by Gerry Sargent, Ian Condy and Conor Murphy. Winds were light on the day which made it a challenging day for all concerned given the spring tides.
True to the form book RCYC were clear winners beating the Provinces into 2nd place. Third pace went to NYC with HYC finishing joint 5th. The Vice President's Trophy, a silver salver donated by Mary Helen and Robert Wilkes was presented to the winning team by commodore Peter McKenna.
HYC was represented by Xander Morrison, Cillian McGreer and Robert Ferris.
All teams enjoyed the experience and the different aspect of team racing.
