The Optimist Connaught Championship was held on 23/24 June at the Royal St. George Yacht Club. The full schedule of six races was run despite a forecast for thunderstorms on Sunday.
A strong contingent of ten young sailors represented HYC at the event with a total of 85 competing in the main fleet. A further 37 boats took part in the Regatta fleet.
The Howth sailors taking part were Diana Kissane, Padraig Finnegan, Ali Dix, Oliver Keenan, Tara Flood, Mark Condy, Robert Ferris, Phoebe Tyrrell, Alex Delamer and Erica Ruigrok.
Mark Condy followed up his recent success in the Ulster Championship with another fine performance and finished the event with a third place in the bronze fleet and earning promotion to the Silver fleet.
Ali, Tara and Oliver sailed well in preparation for their trip with the National Squad to the Flanders Regatta next week.
Diana's consistent results including a win and two seconds pipped local boy Jamie Aplin of the Royal St. George to claim the Championship.
