The Royal Irish Yacht Club hosted the 2005 Optimist Crosbie on 23-24 July.
The Crosbie Cup is very exclusive - it excludes all Optimist Gold Fleet sailors!
Its sole purpose is to put the up & coming sailors into the limelight and therefore all non-Gold fleet sailors enter as a single fleet.

Saturday
A dull day, very misty but a good force 3 from the east meant that racing was feasible.
Finn Murphy of NYC who led throughout dominated race one. Conor Mulvin (NYC) second and Ferdia O'Brien (NYC) was third.
Scott Flanigan of HYC who held off strong opposition on every leg took the second race. Cormac Dixon (LRYC) was second and Graham Corbett (LDYC) third.
Gareth O'Connor (RIYC) was the victor in race 3, Finn was second and Scott third.
Sunday
It was clear to any sailor looking out their bedroom window that there were two chances of racing on Sunday: slim & none.
Just the same, everyone made their way to the host club to see what the PRO decided to do. The winds had swung north-east and increased to F5- 6. This created a rough sea-state and the race area was particularly vulnerable to this wind direction. The sensible decision was to cancel further racing and declare a result after 3 races.
Eamonn Crosbie, who donated the cup to IODAI over a decade ago, was summoned to present the cup bearing his name to the victor Scott Flanigan of Howth Yacht Club.

HYC Report - 2005 Optimist Crosbie Cup
Because of the exclusion of the Gold fleet (10 HYC sailors), just five HYC members participated.
The results of the HYC members who took part:
Scott Flanigan | 1 |
Alexander Rumball | 7 |
Conor Murphy | 9 |
Ali Dix | 19 |
Meghan Darmody | 29 |
The highlights was that a Howth sailor won race 2 and with consistent results in the other races also won the overall the Crosbie Cup event.
Alexander Rumball was just outside the top six prizewinners.
Conor Murphy showed consistent results in races 1 and 2 and could easily have taken a podium position except that race 3 went the wrong way.
Ali Dix had a particularly good 14th in race 1 and consistent race 2 & 3 results putting her in the top 20.
Meghan Darmody was consistent and in a post-race interview stated that she enjoyed the shore-scene at 'the Irish'.
