Howth Yacht Club annually hosts an evening for invited guests to celebrate the sailing achievements of its members during the past year. This year's event took place on Wednesday 19th November.

Commodore Gerry O'Neill and Vice-Commodore Peter McKenna congratulated all the nominees for the 2008 Awards; 6 sailors for the Senior Award and 5 for the Junior Award.

Achiever of the Year Award (Senior)
 
Pat & Olivia Murphy won the Senior Achiever of the Year Award.

The award to Pat & Olivia was in recognition of their achievement in their voyage around the World over a 9 year period in their yacht Aldebaran, during which they covered 46,000 miles and visited 26 countries. They finally arrived back in Howth in August this year.

Achiever of the Year Award (Junior)
 
Tim O'Laoire & his crew Ben Kelleher (from RStGYC) won the Junior Achiever Award.

Their successes in the 420 Class during the past year included the 420 National Championship, Leinster Championship, 4th in the All Ireland Sailing Championships and their ever improving performance at British, European and World levels.
