Howth Yacht Club annually hosts an evening for invited guests to celebrate the sailing achievements of its members during the past year and to welcome new members to the club.

This year the Annual Achievers' Night was on 22nd November and 10 sailors & crews were nominated for the Achiever of the Year Award and 7 sailors were nominated for the Junior Achiever Award.


 
Achiever of the Year Award
 
Vincent Gaffney & Crew in his boat Alliance won the Achiever of the Year Award.

ICRA National Champion in Class 3
WIORA (West of Ireland Offshore Racing Association) - 1st in Class 3
Lambay Regatta - 1st IRC Class 3
Autumn League - 2nd IRC Class 3
Gibney Classic - 3rd IRC Class 3
Runs the successful Adult Sail Training Course at HYC (50 students this year)

Vincent was abroad on business so Noel Davidson who crewed with Vincent on some of the races, accepted the award on his belhalf.

Junior Achiever Award
 
Alistair Kissane won the Junior Achiever Award.
His successes during the past year were ...

Laser Junior Nationals 2006 at NYC - 1st Radial Rig.
Laser Ulster Championships at Ballyholme YC - 6th
Laser Munster Championships at Baltimore YC - 13th
ILA End of Season 2006 Team Trophy - 4th place
Ranked 6th in Ireland.

Alistair also sailed in the Laser Youth Worlds in California and finished 61st out of 250 boats and was 4th Irish boat.

New Members Welcomed to HYC
 
Hon Sailing Secretary, Noel Davidson and Vice-Commodore Gerry O'Neill welcomed a group of the new members. 25 new members joined HYC this year, but a number of these were not available on the night.

Noel outlined the features and facilities of the club and encouraged them to fully engage in the club's various activities.
