Frank Hughes (HYC Commodore), Mrs Mackay (Mother of the late Donny Mackay) & Saoirse O'Reilly (HB Dennis)
Over the bank holiday weekend the inaugeral Donny Mackay multihull championship took place at Howth Yacht Club.
Named after the great man that supported and developed the multihull fleets in Ireland, the championship is open to Hurricane 5.9, Spitfires and other fast catamarans. With the help of sponsorship and suport from HB Dennis Airside the event was a tremendous success.
The PRO for the event, Derek Bothwell wisely cancelled racing on Saturday due to high winds, 26 - 28 kts, 40 degree shifts and gusts over 30 knots were reported. All competitors retired to the yacht club for refreshments and a wonderful dinner.
It was a pleasure to have in attendance, Mrs Mackay, Donny's Mother who at the young age of 95 years still supports the catamarans that her late son loved so much!
Sunday's weather was perfect with 12 - 15 kt South Easterly winds with a flat sea and exciting racing ensued.
