Over 150 members, both young and old, were present in the club to hear Ian Walker's talk. Ian, a double Olympic medalist and multiple World Champion and of course Skipper of 'Green Dragon' gave a highly entertaining account of the Green Dragon's Volvo Ocean race campaign. Tales of pirates, lobster pots, storms, monsoon winds, tactical decisions and some serious gear failure kept the audience enthralled for the evening.
The talk was followed by a very honest question and answer session with some of the younger members posing the more difficult questions. Commodore Peter McKenna took the opportunity to award Ian Honorary Membership of Howth Yacht Club along with the club burgee, a copy of William Nixon's book on the history of HYC and an Etchells Worlds 2010 jacket. Ian was absolutely delighted to receive this honour and promises to be back to enjoy all that Howth has to offer.
Thanks from the social committee to all who attended.
