Many thanks to David Cullen for organising a wonderful Lunch and afternoon of entertainment.
The Fastnet Lunch on Friday captured the spirit and imagination of many members and guests with over 140 attending. Peter Crowley of the ISA took the opportunity to announce that the preferred location of the ISA’s Centre of Excellence was to be Galway.
The Commodore and Brian Turvey then presented Kieran Jameson with a picture of the Fastnet to recognise his achievement of completing 15 consecutive races.
After a terrific lunch, Winkie Nixon humorously recounted the history of the Fastnet and in particular mentioned the antics of the Howth boats that participated. To many this was the highlight of the day.
Neill Love then acted as auctioneer for two items, an RNLI teddy which Joe McPeake bid 100 and a Robert Shaw painting ( www.robertshaw.ie ), donated by the artist entitled "Standing Off" for which Peter Lennon bid 2,500.
Matt Sheahan then crowned things off with a fascinating recount of his earlier life and lessons learned following the 1979 Fastnet. Needless to say, by late afternoon many participants looked as if they had just gone through another 1979 Fastnet but a fantastic day of fun and remembrance was enjoyed by all.
