The 2012 Fireball National Champions are Noel Butler and Stephen Oram from Dun Laoire Motor Yacht Club. Citing excellent boat preparation and fewer mistakes than some of their competitors does not do justice to a scoreline of 3,1,2,2,1,3,1,9,1. The DMYC pair sailed an excellent series to claim the title ahead of Simon McGrotty & Darrach Dineen (Skerries SC) and Kenny Rumball/David Moran (Irish National SS).
The two top Howth interests in the form of Neil Spain and Scott Flannigan (Crewing for Ed Butler) wrapped up their series in 4th and 5th place respectively. Hopefully Mr. Flannigan finds himself a little bit further behind the start line in Weymouth next month!

The smaller than normal fleet represented 13 clubs, making it a very "National" championships indeed.
PRO Harry Gallagher and his team corralled the fleet around 9 race courses over the three days, in conditions ranging from a mean of 12kts to 29kt gusts on the Friday.
The class was very forthright in commending the HYC Race Management team and mark boats for a well done job.
Howth extended its usual hospitality to the visitors who promised to be back for another championships in the near future....a Europeans bid?
