The Puppeteer National Championships held at HYC over the weekend had an exciting finish with bookies favourite Dave Clarke in Harlequin snatching first place on the final day with emphatic wins in the final two races. David Butler in Enigma was the overnight leader and seemed to have the winner's medal in his grasp but Clarke's performance on the final day meant that Dave Butler had to settle for silver this year. Third place went to Neil Murphy in Yellow Peril.
The handicap cup winner was Conor Mullen in Haemoglobin with Noel Davidson in Pinocchio second and the Hegarty brothers Andrew and Robin sailing Eclipse in third place.
The event was sailed in superb weather conditions on brilliant course set by PRO Derek Bothwell. Wind speeds varied between 10 - 15 knots from the SE and the sailing was exciting with places changing all over the place and lots of loud voices on mark roundings.
The event was sponsored this year by HB Dennis Motors and Volvo. Peter Dennis and son Patrick Dennis were welcomed to the prizegiving by Rear-Commodore Brian Turvey who thanked them on behalf of the Puppeteer class and HYC for their valued sponsorship.
