Wexford Harbour Boat & Tennis Club emerged victorious earlier today in the inaugural North & East Coast Club Championships sponsored by CityJet.

The championships, sailed in ISA Sailfleet J80s and designed to pit the best and the brightest of all ISA affiliated clubs on the north and east coasts against each other, proved to be a great success with clubs vowing to return next year to do battle once more.

Conditions for today's final three races were more clement than yesterday's qualifiers, but along with the gentle breeze came much more variation in wind strength and direction. Constant wind shifts kept competitors and PRO Derek Bothwell's team guessing throughout the morning.

In the first race, Wexford picked up the win followed by HYC and Rush SC. It was all changed in the second with RStGYC pulling back a win following an 8th place start in the first. DMYC took second with Rush SC clocking up a second third place. Coming into the final race, the championship was still wide open with the leading two boats separated from the next two boats by only one point. In a race marked by significant wind shifts, RStGYC yet again took line honours, with DMYC placing third. However, it was Wexford Harbour B&TC that stole the day with another consistent 2nd place result to take the championship title, with RStGYC in second place and DMYC in third overall.
