The Regatta Fleet

Last weekend in Sutton Dinghy Club the optimist Crosbie Cup took place for Silver and Regatta Fleet sailors. Fortunately we were gifted with fabulous weather and great view of the Dun Laoghaire 'big boats'.

Howth Yacht Club sailors made up the majority of the 70 entries by entering a total of 30 sailors, 9 in the Main Fleet (4 Senior and 5 Junior) and 21 in the Regatta Fleet. The Senior and Junior fleets raced together with the Regatta Fleet racing inshore.

Saturday was a lovely 28?C with an unsteady 5-8 knots but luckily, thanks to our patient OOD, Richard Kissane, we managed 3 races for the Main Fleet and the Regatta Fleet managed 3. Howth sailors were happy with their results for the day.

Sunday racing was just as eventful with great results all round. The weather was much steadier with 12-15 knots for almost the full day. Another 3 races were run on both courses and everyone had an absolute blast.

Overall Howth did exceptionally well with our very own Daniel Hopkins coming 1st overall.

In the Junior Main Fleet 2nd place went to Jonathan Sargent and 3rd place to William Lacy.

There were also fantastic results in the Regatta Fleet with 3rd place going to Ruth Lacy and 4th place to Michael Fitzgibbon. Other great achievements were: youngest sailor - Johnny Flynn; 1st U11 to Michael Moore and 1st U10 to Sophie Dix.

Well done again to all the HYC sailors and their parents.

Thanks to SDC for organising such a great event.
