SIAC, one of Ireland's largest multi-disciplined construction groups, has agreed to sponsor the 2011 Irish Squib Championships, to be hosted by Howth Yacht Club over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

With SIAC's support, we have been able to pitch the event at a level which will encourage more travellers from our sister fleets in Dublin Bay, Kinsale, Belfast, Arklow and Mayo.

Approximately 35 boats are expected to compete for the title, making the event one of the largest one-design keelboat events in the Irish calendar and the emphasis is on a fun weekend with social events punctuating the racing.

Well used to the Squib fleet, Derek Bothwell (NRO) will be taking a break from working on other major sailing events to look after the fleet for the three days.

Defending Champions Gordon Patterson and Ross Nolan (RNIYC) strung together a very clean series at the event in Belfast but will be hounded by at least six on-form boats. 2011 could be the closest run Squib Championships for a long time.
