Howth Dozen at Sovereign's Cup
Author: Graham Smith Posted on: 22/6/09 Print Version

This year's Sovereign's Cup hosted by Kinsale Yacht Club will have a dozen entries from HYC in four of the seven classes when racing starts on Wednesday (24th June) for the 152 boat fleet over four days.

Biggest HYC representation is in Class 2 - the biggest fleet with 37 boats - where there are six entries. Anthony Gore-Grimes' Dux has enjoyed success in the event before and is joined by sister-ship Xebec (Terry Giles) and also Ian Byrne's Sunburn. Also competing are Indigo (Ritchie & Eadie), Sirius (Jim & Kate Corbett) and Patrick Kyne's Maximus.

Class 0 has just one HYC entry in the shape of Crazy Horse, the new Mills 36 of Nobby Reilly and Alan Chambers while Richard Fanning's Fanatix is the sole HYC entry in the White Sail division.

Class 1 sees four entries under the HYC burgee - Ross McDonald's Equinox, Pat Kelly's Storm, the Don Breen/Paddy Gregory partnership in Flashback and Colm Bermingham's Bite the Bullet.

We wish them good luck in the racing and look forward to their safe return, perhaps with some silverware, next week.
