Holding the cheque: John Bennett and Rupert Jeffares

A cheque for Euro Symbol26,000 was presented to the Howth branch of the RNLI on Friday 14th March. The money was raised during a Golf classic, organised by John Bennett.

Over 150 people participated in a Golf Classic which took place last June. Many local businesses sponsored the prizes and the raffle. This bi-annual event is the fourth that John Bennett has organised. He also had the help of his committee which includes Michael Martin, who also presented the cheque on the day. The Golf Classic committee has raised the best part of €100,000 for Howth RNLI over the past eight years. The RNLI recently presented John with a certificate of thanks on Vellum for all his hard work in aid of Howth Lifeboat.

Rupert Jeffares, Lifeboat Operations Manager for Howth RNLI says:

"The Golf Classic is one of the most important events in the Howth Lifeboat fundraising calendar. Many thanks for all the hard work of the Committee that organise it. Any money donated enables our voluntary crewmembers to continue keeping the seas safe 24 hours a day"

A boat jumble sale in aid of the RNLI will be held in Howth Yacht Club on Saturday 5th April from 10.30am. Lifejackets, oilskins and everything to do with Yachting or Fishing will be gratefully accepted.
