The 420 Leinster Championships were held in Malahide over the Bank Holiday weekend 4th & 5th May. Under PRO Neil Murphy and on the water juror Emmet Dalton a fleet of 12 boats competed with crews from Cork, Galway and Dublin. A complete series of 6 races were completed in the challenging, windy and gusty conditions.

Robert Dickson and Seán Waddilove finished second on a tie break to Adam Hyland (RStGYC) and Bill Staunton (SSC), thus taking the cup from the Howth crew who had won the championship last year. Robert and Sean, who have already qualified for the ISAF Youth Worlds, sailed a very consistent series with 4 second places and a 3rd. Ewan McMahon and Colin O'Sullivan (MYC) got off to a great start winning the first race and finished sixth overall. Ciaran White and Saoirse Kelly found the going tough in the windy conditions in Ciaran's first 420 event. Many thanks to MYC for putting on a great event which our sailors thoroughly enjoyed.

UK Spring Championships
Two weeks prior to the Leinster Championships, as part of their ISAF campaign and to gain some more international experience, HYC 420 crews Robert Dickson and Seán Waddilove and Ewan McMahon and Colin O'Sullivan competed in Pwellhi at the Spring Championships (20th and 21st April 2013).

They travelled to Pwellhi with one other crew from Cork Cliona Ní Suilleabháin and Jill McGinley. Ross Killian (ISA) travelled with them and coached them prior to the event. There were seven races in all with winds of 15-17 knots. Out of a fleet of 36 Robert and Seán finished sixth overall (first overseas boat) and Ewan and Collin finished 24th.
