Author: Gilbert Louis Posted on: 15/4/10 Print Version

On 10th & 11th April the Irish International One Metre Class (model boat class) had their National Championships in Inniscarra Co. Cork.

After 2 days of racing and 18 races completed John Morehead from RCYC managed to defend his title of National champion, ahead of Gilbert Louis from HYC who previously won it the previous 3 years. 3rd was another skipper from RCYC, Andrew Crosbie.

One skipper came all the way from the UK to race at the Irish National Championships.

Howth YC is the home of the Dublin One Metre fleet and though we had a bigger fleet a few years ago, only a handful of skippers now keep the Dublin fleet alive. Skippers from HYC setup the Irish class and we had a skippers representing HYC and Ireland at European and Worlds Championships.

The Cork fleet is now the biggest and we are now actively seeking new skippers to join our class in Dublin. If you are interested please contact us at [email protected] or through our class website at www.iomireland.org
