The Brassed Off Cup was competed for by the Optimist Class on Good Friday. This Open event was initiated by Howth YC to allow those not selected to go to the International Easter Optimist Regatta in Holland have a bit of fun.

The thirteen boat entry included three Dun Laoghaire visitors and four entrants who had been invited to Holland and decided not to go because of the close proximity of the Irish Team Selection Trials to Easter weekend.

To maintain the ethos of the regatta, these four were set a longer course than the rest of the fleet.
Oliver Keenan & Eddie Ferris (Junior Organiser)
The spring tide in Howth Sound and the light breeze only permitted two of the scheduled three races to be sailed. Oliver Keenan won both of the races, taking first place overall ahead of Padraig Finnegan and Gary Scott, a clean sweep for HYC members. Racing was also run for the HYC Laser 4.7 fleet, with Max van der Poll victorious, followed by Claire Murphy and Ryan Scott.

Given the weekend that was in it, there were lots of Easter Eggs as prizes, putting temptation in the way of those whom had sworn off chocolate for lent. Many thanks to Eddie Ferris for his organisation and to all of the helpers who made it possible, particularly Dave Potter, Gillian Guinness, Bernie Condy, Richard Kissane, Kevin Henry and Roger Aplin.
