35 Laser SB3’s are expected at Howth Yacht Club on 18th/19th August for the East Coast Championships, hosted by the Royal Alfred Yacht Club.

This is the third event in the class ranking circuit, following trips to Cork and Bangor earlier in the season. 7 Races are scheduled over the weekend with 4 on Saturday and 3 on Sunday with our very own David Lovegrove as principal race officer for the event.

Competitors are traveling from Cork, Northern Ireland, Dun Laoghaire, Wicklow and the Midlands to compete in what will be a very competitive and social event. Tom Fitzpatrick is leading the local challenge with a 2nd in both ranking events so far, with Ben Duncan and Mike Evans also posting good results so far this season. A strong challenge is expected from the Northern boats with Gareth Flannigan, winner of the 46 boat Dun Laoghaire regatta entered along with former Olympian Peter Kennedy.

By far the largest entry will be from Dun Laoghaire, who plan a delivery race on Thursday night, and may be represented by over 20 boats. Owen Hennessy from the Royal Cork is also expected to figure, and other strong challengers are expected from the RCYC at registration on Friday evening.
