Etchells Matchrace on the River Liffey

A selection of Etchells amassed on the River Liffey in Central Dublin outside the IFSC on Friday July 14th 2006 to take part in a Random Pairs matching racing series.

The East Link bridge was lifted at 11am and racing began soon afterwards under PRO Tony O'Gorman and The Royal Alfred YC.
Racing targeted the lunchtime City workers with the Summer sunshine out the numbers spectating were substantial.

Random Pairs Matching proved to be some of the most exciting racing for some time for the Etchells class with the confined waterspace of the river keeping everyone on their toes.

The Winner was Eitlean crewed by Dave Murnane, David Cagney and Mossey Shanahan.

A Bridge lift at 3pm and back to the Poolbeg YC for prizes and refreshments. Eight Etchells were needed to run the event six of which travelled from Howth and two from Dun Laoghaire.

The Class will next sail the Niobe Trophy in Howth on August 19th/20th and then the Irish National also in Howth on August 25th/26th and 27th. The expected numbers at the Irish National are in excess of 30 boats.
