One Metre Nationals at HYC - 2nd April
Author: Gilbert Louis Posted on: 3/4/06 Print Version

10 skippers competed in the 2006 One Metre National Championships - two travelled from Royal Cork and one from the UK.

Because of the forecasted Westerly force 7-8 most started with the storm rig but quickly changed to the larger medium rig as conditions in the race area (within the Harbour) were moderate. Gilbert Louis took an early lead, closely followed by Fergal Noonan.

Unfortunately Jeff Kay was an early retirement. Long windward-leeward courses made for close racing. At the end Gilbert Louis took the title and Fergal Noonan, also from HYC, took second place. Oliver Williams from Wexford was 3rd.

Well done to all One Metre sailors who came and competed on a wet and windy day.
