Teams in action in the ISA J80s

Howth Yacht Club played host to the inaugural Dublin Match Racing Open on 25th & 26th July. Eleven teams from around Ireland and one from the US enjoyed testing conditions with winds ranging from 10 to 25kts.

With another superb all round performance John Sheehy took the honors taking his lead in the Match Racing Tour of Ireland to 20 points. The team from North Sails Ireland skippered by Maurice O’Connell came second, their extra boats speed making up for their lack of experience in the prestart. Howths own Tom Fitzpatrick came in third overall giving him second place in the Tour.

Chief umpire Mike O’Conner and PRO Dave Lovegrove put on a superb and well received weekends racing and in particular we would like to thank our visiting umpires and every one that lent ribs and provided accommodation.

Thanks to the success of this event we hope that the Dublin Match Racing Open will become a regular feature on the HYC calendar.
