The three Howth boats on Rally Portugal have all reached the Spanish Town of Bayona and are having a much needed R&R having taken from 92 hours to over 100 hours for the trip from Plymouth which started on the 3rd June.
Francis Ennis on Rockstar, Joe McPeake on Huganni and William Morrison on Hot Pants II met differnt trials and tribulations on their different courses over the Bay of Biscay from Plymouth.
Of course the presence of Orla on Rockstar ensured plenty of Avian visitors including two swallows(one of whom passed away), a racing pigeon and two oversexed collar doves. Rockstar met winds of up to 30 knots, did 98 miles sailing in one 12 hour period while William Morrison managed a 190 mile day with winds of over 40 knots. Joe McPeake had a very fast crossing over Biscay.
Dave O'Learys birthday was celebrated with due reverence for one so young.
Since arriving, the three crews have upheld the traditions of hospitality associated with HYC and the culinary expertise and imagination of Charles Blandford are about to be experienced on Huganni for a late lunch.
