So far four of these exciting boats have been ordered and are due to arrive in Howth in May. The Feva is hugely successful in the UK and internationally, the US sailing magazine Sailing World awarded it 'Dinghy of the Year' in December 2005, other awards include, RYA Junior recognised Status, Supported Class Status in Sweden, Coup de Coeurs 2004 in France and International Sailing Federation Recognised Class status.
Beth Cassidy, Elisabeth Ferris, Manus O'Donnell and Rachel O'Leary will be starting out in these fast racing dinghies this Summer. The Feva is a two handed , low maintenance boat which will be attractive to teenagers who would rather sail with a friend as a team. Aimed at a similar age range to the Mirror, it is easy to rig, and offers exciting sailing with an asymmetric spinnaker and without the fuss of a trapeze. Around the country, there has been a concerted effort to start the class off with a bang. Approximately 35 boats will be arriving in mid May for the first delivery and they will be going to RCYC, Tralee, RIYC, Royal St George YC, National Yacht Club and Howth. These boats have been ordered at the special introductory price of 4150 Euro, including launching trolley and cover, (usually 5830). The introductory offer is still available until mid April. We are planning a barbeque/party when the boats arrive with the Dun Laoghaire crowd and will have our new boats on display. Details and dates will be on the website nearer the time. We are expecting a good turnout for our dinghy regatta here in Howth on 16th July and hope to arrange open training on the 15th to tune up a bit first! RIYC have offered to host the first National Championships from 25th to 27th August. RS Sailboats will be bringing 12 new Feva's over from the UK for European and UK crew to charter for the event and these boats will then be available for sale at 4150 Euro. The UK Feva association assure us that at least 20 boats will travel over for our Nationals, giving the possibility of having as many as 60 boats and an international event in our first year. So, who should buy this boat? Racing in the UK is divided into two sections, under 16's and over 16's. Aimed primarily at teenagers, we are planning a racing circuit which we hope will incorporate a lively social and sailing scene and offer challenging and fun sailing as well as international racing. We hope to create a class which will entertain and stimulate our young sailors and give them a long term interest in the sport.
