The first leg of the National Optimist Trials to select European and International Development Teams for 2011 was held in Kinsale over the weekend.
Nine Howth sailors participated in very challenging conditions. Light winds against the tide on the Friday and Saturday made for particularly trying conditions. However, a 12-14 knot sea breeze for 2 races on Sunday was welcomed by most. PRO John Petch did an excellent job with all 8 of the scheduled races sailed.
At the half way stage it is still early days but a number of our sailors are in promising positions. The second leg will be held at the RsTGYC from the 30th April - 2nd May. Many thanks to our hosts KYC. Full results can be found at www.iodai.com in the Results section.
