The Irish Women's Match Racing World Qualifiers were held in HYC on Sunday, 13th April and there was very strong competition and tight racing. 3 teams competed in the ISA Sailfleet J80s - Diana Kissane, Mary O'Loughlin and Laura Dillon were the helms. The racing was tight and wind conditions were quite windy, approximately 15-20 knots from a westerly direction. The races were initially sailed with spinnakers and then due to the wind conditions, rounds 2 and 3 were raced without spinnakers.

Final results were:
Laura Dillon - 4 wins and 2 losses (sailed 6 races)
Mary O'Loughlin - 3 wins and 2 losses (sailed 5 races)
Diana Kissane - 1 win and 4 losses (sailed 5 races)

Diana Kissane and her team did an excellent job, as this was their first ever match racing event. We predict great things to come from Diana and her team in the future.

Mary O'Loughlin (and her team of Karena Knaggs, Lynn Reilly and Niamh McDonald) and Laura Dillon (and her team of Maria Coleman, Carol O'Kelly and Breffni Jones) have now qualified for the ISAF Women's Match Racing Worlds which will be hosted by Royal Cork Yacht Club, from 3-8 June 2014.

This is a very prestigious event for Ireland and it is great to have 2 Irish teams competing.

Many thanks go to the selection committee of Gordon Davies, Brian Matthews and Cxema Pico as well as the HYC event management teams for another superb job.
