Some months ago the Howth Sutton & Baldoyle Chamber of Commerce invited nominations for four categories of Business Awards, namely, 1 Service Excellence, 2 Best Presented Business, 3 Best New Business, and 4 Person/Business of the Year.
There was a general feeling that we should submit a nomination and so, having amalgamated information from members and staff I submitted a nomination.
At the Chamber's black tie dinner held in Howth Castle on Friday night (30/11/12) we were not successful in winning any of the above categories. However, at the beginning of the prize giving the Chamber President, Paul Brady explained how difficult a job the adjudicators had in deciding the various winners. He said that one nomination stood out for a "SPECIAL AWARD" and that was Howth Yacht Club. His citation included many of the achievements of the Club during 2012. I was invited to accept the award which reads, in,
"RECOGNITION OF CONTRIBUTION TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY"
In thanking the President and adjudicators I expressed my surprise and delight that the Club should be honoured with such a prestigious award. Being responsible for bringing over 15,000 visitor days into Howth in 2012 we hope that the local communities and business have benefitted from our activities. Finally, I would be negligent in not mentioning the tremendous support we receive from the local community and businesses and Capt. Raja Maitra the Harbour Master and his staff for all their help.
