Day1: After a reasonably long wait the race office made the wise decision to cancel racing for the day. With an average wind speed of 25-28kts and gusts in excess of 35kts racing just wasnt possible. A few local brave souls went sailing anyway and all came back with equipment damage.
Day2: Four races were completed on Sunday in widely varying conditions. The wind started the day in the South East with a 0 to 10kts breeze to end up on the final race with gusts up to 25kts from the North West... It was an extremely challenging day for all concerned!
In the Laser standard class, Olympian James Espey had to fend off Finn Lynch attempts probably with more vigor than he had anticipated. Alan Ruigrok continues his progress taking a comfortable 3rd with Howths own Ronan Cull clocking up an impressive fifth position.
The radial class was as competitive as ever, although Robbie Gilmore superior speed downwind gave him a perfect score of four bullets. The rest of the top positions were subject of battles at every level and on the final race the top three positions swapped several times. Eventually Darragh OSullivan finished in second position and Thomas Chaix in 3rd. HYCs Aoife Hopkins found the going tough but improved her position with each successive race.
A mere seven boats turned out in the 4.7 fleet with Conor Kneafsey eventually taking the Ulsters trophy. Conor obviously benefited hugely from the excellent training in received in Howth at Easter.
Further afield in Lake Garda, Annalise Murphy in a return to form won the Eurosaf event in style. Well Done Annalise!
