| Nine Howth Sailors competed in the Crosbie cup in Lough Derg last weekend. The Crosbie Cup is a fun event only open to silver fleet sailors giving them an opportunity to shine. Senior (12+) and Junior sailors (under 12) sail together in one fleet (the main fleet) making for an interesting start line. Our own Richard Hogan having made steady progress all season had a stormer of an event finishing second in the Junior Fleet with fantastic results in races 5 (2nd) & 6 (3rd). Watch out Gold Fleet sailors here he comes! Day 1: Dawned bright and sunny with a westerly breeze of approx 15 knots. Conditions on the lake were difficult with the wind shifting continuously. Local knowledge came into play and the Lough Derg Sailors had great results. Four races were sailed as the race committee came under pressure as winds of 25kts gusting to 30 were expected for the next day. The 60 boats in the Regatta Fleet also sailed four races as it was unlikely that they would sail the next day. Two new sailors from Howth joined Daniel Hopkins in the Regatta Fleet. Neil Howard and Aoife Markey having recently completed their level 1 sailing courses competed in their first event and completed all their races showing excellent potential. Daniel had an excellent last race being pipped at the post for first position and coming in a close second behind Ellen Tuck from SSC. |

| Day2: The wind built steadily throughout the day and the only the hardiest of main fleet sailors launched to winds of 22 knots gusting to 30 knots across the lake as a low moved in from the Atlantic. |

The top 20 Regatta fleet sailors trained close to shore in Dromineer bay near Goose Island under the direction of senior coach John White.
Two races were sailed by the main fleet with quite a few sailors unable to finish race two but Nicholas Delamer (2nd) and Richard Hogan (3rd) hung in there achieving excellent results in conditions that would have challenged the hardiest of sailors! Well done to Richard Hogan for bringing home the 2nd prize in the Junior Fleet and coming 5th overall. Congratulations must also be extended to all the Howth Sailors who sailed on day two in extremely tough conditions simply to survive was an achievement in itself! |
