The Royal St. George YC kindly hosted the Dublin Port Squib Invitation Team Racing, on Saturday 17th September.
This was the second year of the event and it was run with the usual professionalism associated with this experienced team racing club.
There were eight teams representing various clubs and classes. Howth Yacht Club was represented by Emmet Dalton and Jonathan Craig, Emer Harte and Neal Merry and the "Two Tims" (Concannon and Noone).
The racing was close and for those not so expert in team racing, hides were tanned early on! Some improvisation and miraculous recoveries left Howth YC vying for the lead with the Dragon Class. The meeting of the two teams saw the Dragons slaying the visitors in a closely fought match. The monsters went on to win the event with Howth YC coming in second, losing only one race in the series. This was a great improvement on the 2004 result and has given HYC some food for thought. Imagine if we practiced!
Thanks again must go to Derek Jago and his team for running a great event and giving up their spare time to make it a most enjoyable day for the sailors.
