HYC sailors Gerard O’Sullivan and Hugh McNally have just completed their first GP14 Worlds Regatta in Looe, Cornwall sailing under the HYC burgee.
Some of you will recognise Gerard as a regular in the snooker room and both he and Hugh are regular crew on Class 2 boat Sunburn. The pair have practised relentlessly on their training boat and the new boat since its arrival a couple of months ago, launching from the dinghy slip almost every evening.
The GP14 Worlds in Looe was the target event in their first year campaigning Gerard’s stunning new Duffin boat complete with the latest sails and equipment.
Their plan is to focus on the next couple of years competing in GP14 regional, national and world championship regattas and bring home some silverware.
Their final position was 30th overall and 8th in the Silver fleet out of 127 competitors which included 5 Olympic crews direct from Weymouth and 14 international sail makers. Our own Olympian, Ger Owens (RStGYC) finished 5th. This was a great first result and has this HYC crew on track for their overall campaign.
