Robert & Sean taking line honours
|
Howth duo Robert Dickson and Sean Waddilove secured gold in a very competitive 15 boat fleet at the ISA Youth Nationals.
The annual event was held at Lough Derg over 4 days, 4-7th April. The duo won 5 of the 11 races in what was a close battle between the 4 leading boats. Drama on the 3rd day saw all 4 leading boats black flagged in Race 9. However, a 4th and 1st place on the last day secured the gold and the opportunity to represent Ireland at the ISAF World Championships in Limassol, Cyprus in July. The pair finished 13 points clear of Peter McCann and Arran Walsh (RCYC) and bronze medallists Adam Hyland (RsTGYC) and Bill Staunton (SSC).

Robert & Sean lead again

First in the girl's ISAF category were RCYC duo Cliodhna Ni Shuilleabhain and Jill McGinley
Ewan McMahon and Colin O’Sullivan (MYC) finished an excellent 7th overall and sailed a very consistent series in their first season of competition.
Fergus Flood and Nicky Delamer also competed though soon found that the lack of winter training due to rugby commitments left them short of pace.
In all 10 Howth sailors travelled to compete in the Youth Nationals. Aoife Hopkins (31st) and Alex Delamer (35th) competed in the largest fleet of 44 Laser Radials whilst Richard Hogan secured a very credible 5th place in the Laser 4.7 in his first major outing. Issy Delamer (21st) raced in the 35 strong Topper class though had to retire on the last day.
