Among the 330 entries at the Laser 4.7 worlds in France are a total of 8 from Ireland, 2 sailors from HYC will be racing, Jamie Carton and Ross Darmody. Most of the sailors have now been in Hourtin since the beginning of the week preparing for the event. Their coach is Thomas Chaix, junior coach with the ISA and an experienced Laser sailor from Lough Erne YC. After a practice race on Saturday, the event will run for 6 days with the objective of completing 12 races.
Jamie Carton, age 15, began sailing with an Optimist in 2004 and moved to Laser in Spring 2005. Ross Darmody, 16 started sailing an Optimist before he made the move to the Laser two years ago. Both took part in the Leinster squad training over the winter.
We wish them good luck in the event.
