The May 2005 Class

The 2005 Adult Sail Training course commenced on Monday 16th May with a classroom session covering basic theory, safety and familiarisation of the various parts of the boat.

Given the strong winds on the first evening and damage previously sustained to a number of boats during racing, the class was divided into two groups which went out separately on the water on TIGER. Conditions were similar on the second evening with winds gusting over 30 Knots but all were delighted to have managed to get out on the water and at least get a brief taste of sailing. Thanks must go to Stephen Harris for agreeing to take the group out in conditions that were less than ideal. However it was reasonably comfortable sailing under No. 3 Jib.

The course continues for the next two weeks (2 evenings each week) with Cruisers 2 & 3 in week 2 followed by Puppeteers and the Cruising Group in the final week.

The people taking part this year are really enthusiastic, so if there are any owners who are looking for crew and willing to take a bit of time to help someone develop the skills of sailing there is the opportunity to gain a keen and committed crew member. Anyone interested in getting crew from this course should contact Vince Gaffney on [email protected] with your details and he will pass them on to the group.

The August 2005 Course

The May course was heavily oversubscribed so we are going to run a second course in August using the same format. Dates for the second course are 8th, 11th, 15th, 18th, 22nd & 25th August.

Due to the demand for this second course, applications will be taken on a first come - first served basis and places will be reserved when the club has received a fully completed application form with payment. Application forms for the August course will be available shortly. Please note that we already have 10 applicants for the second course and the course will be limited to 25
