The Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta, which finished on Sunday 12th July, proved a happy hunting ground for Howth boats - there were 44 HYC entries - with notable successes in four classes and runners-up placings in a few others.
The most outstanding result was in Class 2 where it was an HYC 1-2-3, with Class 2 National Champions Kinetic almost inevitably taking the honours from Dux and King One .... and for good measure, Impetuous took fourth place to underline the HYC dominance.
The Etchells also had a Howth 1-2-3, with Crop Duster (Dan O'Grady) fending off the challenge of the new European Champions Northside Dragon (Jay Bourke) and Ladies Who Launch (Mary O'Loughlin) in third spot while Ben Duncan's Sharkbait won the Laser SB3s by the tightest of margins.....a better discard in the biggest fleet at the event!
The Seventeens' series was won by Pauline (O'Doherty & Ryan) and the McCabe's Mac Magic won the White Sails division on ECHO, while Colm Bermingham's Bite the Bullet was the White Sails IRC runner-up.
In the Squibs, Emmet Dalton and the Ruane/Craig partnership in Klipbok and Kerfuffle had to settle for 2nd and 3rd overall respectively while in the J80 fleet, Laura Dillon and crew on Smart Telecom only missed out on the gold by a single point.
All-in-all, a good four days racing in moderate to fresh conditions for the 450 boat fleet. HYC was also represented on the race management side with race teams on board 'Free Enterprise' setting courses on the Sutton side of the shipping lane into Dublin Port.
