Following the sinking of the Asgard II and the decision to wind up Coiste An Asgard, the ISA has facilitated a steering group with the establishment of ‘Sail Training Ireland, an umbrella organisation developing a national sail training programme in Ireland. Sail Training Ireland, now incorporated as a limited company, was launched on Thursday the 14th of April 2011 in Dublin Port offices.
Guests at the launch included those involved with Sail Training activities and speakers from the board of STI outlined the plans for the new company.
The event was attended by a large group from HYC and William Nixon recalled the history of sail training in Ireland up to the sinking of Asgard II.
