On Saturday the 20th of April 2013 seven Howth boats sailed into Greystones Marina the first boats to do so since the official opening of the new Marina. The boats making up the flotilla were Peanut, Dovetail, Arcturus, Ragabash, Oleander of Howth, Aldebaran and Aquarius.

The day started out well but was not without its travails given a strengthening southerly wind of 24 -25 knots over a dropping tide. Most crews were certainly glad to make harbour without too much incident.
The Group was warmly welcomed by the Mayor of Greystones, Kathleen Kelleher, Local Councillor Derek Mitchell, and Bernard Gallagher managing director of BJ Marine and his very helpful staff.

The Cruising Group of Howth Yacht Club wish Greystones and BJ Marine every success and best wishes for the future with the much awaited Marina. We have no doubt that the local restaurants and businesses will also benefit from the project. The Group stayed over on the Saturday evening and a number of our sailors, eighteen in all, dined out in one of the local restaurants following pre-drinks in the local Sailing Club. The new Marina should prove very popular with all sailors throughout the Irish Sea and further afield.
