Six HYC Boats for Etchells Europeans 23rd-25th May in Holyhead Bay, North Wales

HYC will be represented by six boats at the Etchells European Championships at Holyhead Sailing Club. One of the HYC boats was rumoured to be seriously contemplating the time-honoured Corinthian approach of actually sailing to the event rather than taking the easy option of trailing by road and ferry!

However, it seems that a family commitment for skipper Jay Bourke has meant that he and his crewmen David Cagney and Declan McManus won't have the time to make the trip on water and will now take the more conventional route like the others!

David Burrows, the early pace-setter locally and winner of the Spring Warmer series and Dan O'Grady would be considered the leaders of the Howth challenge at the event. However, Alex Lacy, Stephen Quinn and Simon Knowles finished 5th, 6th and 7th respectively at last year's Europeans in Italy so will be hoping for even better things this time. Alex Lacy (with Paul Derham and David Burrows crewing) warmed up for the event by winning the one-day Northern Championships last weekend.

The competition is, needless to say, stiff. Reigning champion Ante Razmilovic is looking to defend his title from the likes of former World Champion (and current Irish and UK Champion) Stuart Childerley and a strong contingent from Cowes.
