There will be a distinctly international flavour to Howth Yacht Club over the St. Patrick's holiday weekend - and it is not restricted to the Six Nations Rugby match between Ireland and England at Twickenham!
The Club is the venue for the inaugural International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Development Symposium at which delegates from sixteen countries will discuss a set of criteria and future strategy in the areas of Training and Development.
The Symposium is a response to growing demands on ISAF to provide its worldwide national authorities with physical resources and guidance for the growth and delivery of all aspects of discipline-based sailing programmes which would be internationally accredited. The delegates will also receive presentations on ISAF's new Guide to Offshore Safety, ISAF Training Scholarships and Olympic Solidarity Funding.
Chaired by ISAF's Training & Development Manager Dan Jaspers, the event will be addressed by ISAF-nominated experts and invited specialist technical advisors. Countries represented will include Bulgaria, Spain, France, New Zealand, UAE, Holland, Turkey, Poland, South Africa, Russia, Austria, Korea, Iran, Iceland and, of course, Ireland.
The Symposium in Howth is the first of three major ISAF events being held in Ireland this year. In July, the ISAF Youth Worlds are in Dun Laoghaire and its Annual Conference will be staged in Dublin in November.
The Development Symposium delegates will be officially welcomed to the Club by the Commodore Roger Cagney.
