HYC at Cork Week 2010

With 230 entries Cork Week 2010 style was by all accounts a markedly different affair from previous years. The halving in the numbers on the water left a lot more elbowroom ashore and it was much easier to bump into friends new and -- in some cases very, as in 'I thought you where dead' -- old.

Although some notable travellers from 2008 where unable to attend, once again Howth Yacht Club was well represented across the classes. None more so than in IRC 5 (our Class 2) with Sunburn, Maximus and Impetuous all enjoying everything that Cork Week had to offer.

The honour of performance of the week from an HYC crew must surely belong to Crazy Horse. The Reilly/Chambers combo duked it out all week with the Commodores Cup contenders at the front end of IRC 1 finishing 4th overall in nip and tuck racing with Jump Juice, Roxie 6 and Impetuous (the ex Blondie III). The Olympic courses on day 2 obviously suited the team well. After a solid 3rd in the first race and a 2 second win over Jump Juice in the second they walked away with the daily prize.

After their winning performance at the Scottish Series the McDonalds continued in rocking form finishing a strong 2nd in IRC3 with Equinox.

In the SB3s Ben Duncan and Brian Moran in Sharkbait notched up the Cork Week/Dun Laoghaire Week double in a hard fought 3 way battle. The final score line of 5 wins, a 2nd and an OCS, after crossing the finish line of the 3 and half hour harbour race first to deafening silence, wasn't a fair reflection on how hard the Howth crew where pushed all event by Bullit from the north and Profile Park from the south. Race 6 saw the lead change 8 times between these three team before Bullit took the win by a narrow margin.
