HYC boys Richard Hogan and Daniel Hopkins are part of the 15 strong National Optimist squad competing at the 62nd Trofeo Ciutat de Palma.

The Howth sailors along with the other squad members arrived late Monday night and will undertake three days of training before the Regatta Starts properly on Friday.

450 oppies are entered for the event making it the biggest optimist event in Europe and one of the biggest in the World. Richard (14 yrs old) has represented Ireland twice on the International development team and this is his second occasion to compete in Palma. As an experienced optimist sailor, Richard will hope for some good results. Daniel (12 yrs old) is attending his first International event and will enjoy the learning experience and travelling with a team away from home for the first time.

The boys trained yesterday for two and a half hours in gusty, shifty and difficult winds which made for an interesting start to the week.
