In a move to enhance the racing and coaching skills of members at various levels, Howth Yacht Club has announced the appointment of Graeme Grant as its first ever Coaching Development Manager.

A familiar face on the Irish sailing scene in recent years, the 36-year Scot - he hails from the Scottish Highlands - is a highly experienced coach with ISA qualifications as an Instructor Coach, Adventure Instructor and Powerboat Instructor, among others.

A former member of the British Olympic 470 Development Squad in the build-up to the 1996 Games, his sailing successes include the Scottish 420 Nationals and the Hornet Youth Worlds while in recent times he has competed in Surf Kayaking, representing Ireland at the 2003 Worlds (finishing 9th overall).

Graeme Grant

He worked in Outdoor Activity Management for seven years until 2005 and has since filled various coaching positions around Ireland as well as acting as Bosun of the ISA's Sailfleet J80s (a post he retains along with his new HYC role).

In his capacity as HYC's Coaching Development Manager, he aims to develop and improve sailors' racing skills, introduce members to specialist sailing such as match and team racing, maximise the Club's use of the Sailfleet J80s and assist dinghy instructors to cross-over as keelboat instructors.
